Honoring Service: Junior Beta Club Students Celebrate Veterans Day with Handmade Cards
At North Carolina Virtual Academy (NCVA) service is more than just a concept, it’s an action that our students pursue. This Veterans Day, our Junior Beta Club demonstrated the spirit of service by creating handmade appreciation cards for veterans across North Carolina.
A Small Gesture with Big Impact
Middle schoolers spent several weeks working on the project, designing thoughtful cards with heartfelt messages and hand-drawn artwork. Some students chose to honor specific branches of the military, while others wrote more personal notes thanking their local veterans for their service.
The cards were delivered to veteran organizations across North Carolina, including local VFW posts, nonprofits and even directly to veterans. A Junior Beta Club member, Lucas, visited his community’s local Veterans Day celebration alongside his little brother to share their gratitude one-on-one.
Leadership In Action
As part of Junior Beta Club’s mission to develop leaders through service, this project encouraged students to think intentionally about expressing gratitude, respect and civic responsibility.
“Our students were so proud to create something meaningful,” said Lindsay Davis, Junior Beta Club advisor. “Our North Carolina communities are home to so many veterans and this was a powerful way for them to give back.”
A Tradition Worth Continuing
The success of this year’s project has already inspired ideas for future service projects. We’re incredibly proud of our students for using their creativity, compassion, and leadership to make a difference.
