In the News: NCVA Student Training for Paralympics

Stories & Spotlights

The students at North Carolina Virtual Academy (NCVA) all come to our school via a different path, but with the same goal – success. For one NCVA student, success means chasing his swimming goals all the way to Paralympic gold.

Just Keep Swimming

Evan, a high school senior from Wake Forest, was born with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, a rare genetic eye condition that has left him nearly blind.

But that has not slowed him down. At an early age, Evan found his love for swimming and that being in the water was a great way to push himself.

“When you’re in a race, and you’ve got a guy on either side of you, and you can feel them moving through the water, you’re like, I’m not getting left behind.”

To the Paralympics … and Beyond

Evan competed in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris and has been focusing on his strength and conditioning training ever since. He is currently training for the Para Swimming World Series U.S.A. which will be held in Indianapolis and plans to compete in Singapore later this year.

His main goal after college? The 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles.

We cannot wait to see what the future holds for Evan! Check out the full story here.
